Short Form Video Addiction

In today’s fast-paced digital age, short form videos have taken the world by storm, captivating audiences across various social media platforms. While these bite-sized clips offer entertainment and valuable information, they can also lead to a concerning trend: short form video addiction. With their easily consumable nature and addictive algorithms, it’s easy for users to find themselves mindlessly scrolling through hours of content, resulting in reduced productivity and increased screen time.

However, amidst this phenomenon, small businesses have a unique opportunity to harness the power of short form videos to their advantage. Repurposing short form videos for small business can prove to be an incredibly effective marketing strategy. By creating engaging and concise videos that showcase their products, services, and brand personality, businesses can capture the attention of potential customers and foster a strong online presence.

What Are Short Form Videos?

Short form videos refer to brief, concise video content typically lasting anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. These videos are specifically tailored to capture viewers’ attention quickly and deliver engaging information in a condensed format. They have gained immense popularity, particularly on social media platforms, due to their easily digestible nature, making them perfect for users with short attention spans and on-the-go consumption.

Short form videos are widely used across various platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, Twitter Fleets, and Snapchat stories. They often encompass a wide range of content types, including entertaining clips, how-to tutorials, product demonstrations, comedic skits, educational snippets, and more. The key to their effectiveness lies in their ability to convey a message or evoke emotions within a short timeframe, leveraging creative storytelling, visual appeal, and captivating soundtracks.

Creators and businesses alike have embraced short form videos as a means to connect with their audiences, grow their following, and generate engagement. These videos encourage user interaction through likes, comments, and shares, which, in turn, can help content reach a wider audience through algorithmic recommendations. As a result, short form videos have become a powerful tool for content marketing and brand promotion, enabling businesses to showcase their offerings and connect with potential customers in an engaging and dynamic manner.

Why Small Businesses Should Repurpose Short Form Videos Across Multiple Platforms

Small businesses should repurpose short form videos for their digital marketing for several compelling reasons, as they offer unique advantages that can significantly enhance their marketing and outreach efforts:

  1. Captivating and Memorable: Short form videos excel at grabbing viewers’ attention quickly, making them more likely to be watched and remembered. The concise format ensures that the main message or product offering is communicated effectively, increasing the chances of leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
  2. Higher Engagement: The engaging nature of short form videos encourages higher levels of user interaction, such as likes, comments, and shares. This increased engagement not only boosts the visibility of the content but also helps in building a loyal and active community around the brand.
  3. Wide Reach and Virality: Social media platforms heavily promote short form videos, often featuring them prominently in users’ feeds and suggested content sections. This algorithmic push can lead to videos going viral, exposing businesses to a broader audience and potentially gaining a substantial number of new followers or customers.
  4. Showcasing Personality and Brand Identity: Short form videos provide an excellent opportunity for businesses to display their brand personality and values. Creative and authentic videos can resonate with viewers, fostering a sense of connection and trust with the brand.
  5. Cost-Effectiveness: Producing short form videos can be relatively cost-effective compared to traditional advertising methods. Many smartphones are equipped with high-quality cameras, enabling businesses to create professional-looking content without substantial production expenses.
  6. Adaptability and Versatility: Short form videos can be repurposed and used across various platforms, maximizing their reach and effectiveness. Whether it’s on social media, websites, email campaigns, or presentations, these videos can seamlessly integrate into different marketing channels.
  7. Millennial and Gen Z Appeal: Short form videos are especially popular among younger audiences, including millennials and Gen Z. By utilizing this format, businesses can tap into these demographics and build a strong following among the tech-savvy and influential consumer groups.
  8. Storytelling Opportunities: Despite their brevity, short form videos can still convey compelling narratives. Businesses can leverage this aspect to tell stories about their products, customers, or social initiatives, creating a deeper emotional connection with the audience.

Short Form Video Platforms

Here are some of the major short form video platforms that were commonly used by small businesses:

  1. TikTok: TikTok is a rapidly growing platform known for its short, entertaining videos. It has a vast user base and offers excellent opportunities for businesses to reach a younger audience and create engaging content.
  2. Instagram Reels: Reels is a feature within Instagram that allows users to create and share short form videos, usually up to 60 seconds long. As Instagram is a widely used social media platform, Reels can help businesses reach their existing followers and attract new ones.
  3. YouTube Shorts: YouTube Shorts is a short form video format on YouTube, enabling businesses to create vertical videos up to 60 seconds long. It’s a great platform for reaching a massive global audience and leveraging YouTube’s powerful search and recommendation algorithms.
  4. Twitter Fleets: Fleets are ephemeral short videos on Twitter that disappear after 24 hours. While Twitter is primarily known for text-based content, Fleets offer a visual way for businesses to engage with their followers.
  5. Snapchat Stories: Snapchat Stories are short video clips and images that vanish after 24 hours. They are an excellent option for reaching a younger audience and showcasing behind-the-scenes content or limited-time offers.
  6. Facebook Stories: Facebook Stories work similarly to Snapchat and Instagram Stories, providing a short-lived way to share videos with followers. Small businesses can use this feature to interact with their Facebook audience more dynamically.
  7. Triller: Triller is a short form video app that focuses on music and allows users to create professional-looking videos quickly. Businesses can use Triller to align their brand with popular music and trends.
  8. Byte: Byte is a social media platform specifically designed for sharing short looping videos. It was created as a spiritual successor to the now-defunct Vine, and it offers a space for creative and entertaining short videos.
  9. Dubsmash: Dubsmash is a platform where users can create short videos dubbed with famous sound clips and music. It can be a fun and engaging way for businesses to showcase their products or services.

Please note that the popularity and availability of these platforms may have changed since my last update. As a small business owner, it’s essential to research and choose platforms that align with your target audience and marketing goals. Additionally, keep an eye out for emerging platforms that might become relevant in the future.

Repurpose Short Form Videos as Reels on Multiple Platforms

Even just producing one 30-second Instagram or Tiktok reel takes significant effort, so why wouldn’t you want to optimize its impact and maximize its results?

Repurposing short form videos across various social media platforms allows you to leverage one piece of content, but multiply its benefits and reach by showing it to new and different audiences.

Platforms are pushing video content heavily, making now an excellent opportunity to take advantage of creating original video content and increase reach and engagement by producing original videos.

Repurpose Short Form Videos: Best Social Platforms

Many social media platforms have taken note of the rising popularity of Tiktok and short form video platforms as a whole, in order to remain competitive in an ever-evolving online landscape. From Instagram reels and Facebook to Pinterest pins, Youtube shorts, and Tiktok itself – your short form videos now have multiple outlets where they can reside!

As this is quite a large list, I suggest only posting on all platforms if you have help from others – such as my team of virtual assistants who can assist you.

Before diving in to repurposing content, it might help to review some tips for filming with future repurposing in mind. While you can repurpose existing posts later on, these tricks could make life simpler in the future by giving yourself time and preparation.

First and foremost, videos featuring original audio content such as talking or voiceovers are easy to repurpose across platforms without having to search for similar songs and/or audio tracks.

Next, when possible, record content directly on your phone to access original unwatermarked files. Video editing apps like InShot allow for editing the videos with text and titles of your choosing to add your personal touch.

Regular video content is generally easier to reuse than videos with platform-specific filters, effects or stickers added – this feature can even be added via video editing software if required.

At this point, you might be wondering how to repurpose short videos. Is the quickest and easiest solution simply downloading them from Tiktok and reposting them elsewhere? Unfortunately not! There are three basic steps involved with repurposing short videos.

Repurposing videos should primarily consist of taking your own content and posting it elsewhere – not reusing videos of others. Also, many platforms do not permit direct downloads to prevent theft of their services.

If you own an original video without watermarks, you can upload that directly to different platforms using their individual upload processes.

If you don’t own the original videos (for instance if you shot and edited directly through Tiktok), third party downloading tools such as Snapinsta.app/IG Downloader for Instagram reels and SnapTik for Tiktok can help. These tools enable users to select an URL link from Instagram/Tiktok, copy/paste it into their tool, then download watermark-free videos directly onto their computers.

Upload your video to each platform you select while keeping in mind your audience and goals. Make sure to add an engaging title, description, keywords or tags where applicable.

Repurpose Short Form Videos: Avoidable Mistakes

It should go without saying that when reposting videos for reuse or sharing with third-parties, make sure not to make any of the following repurposing mistakes!

Tiktok and Instagram reels often become viral due to trending sounds or music; however, repurposing such content can be challenging due to licensing agreements on specific platforms that restrict its availability elsewhere.

If you don’t own the rights to an audio or song and can’t locate it elsewhere for use on other platforms, muting its audio may be best or creating your own original video with different music as an alternative solution.

Instagram and Tiktok in particular don’t like seeing watermarked content from other sources posted to their platforms; as a result, posting these videos will reduce reach significantly. Therefore, whenever possible it would be best to upload an original, non-watermarked video file.

Short form video content like reels and Tiktok videos continues to enjoy tremendous reach and viral potential, making this truly the golden age of short form video! With just a little extra work, one video can be posted across various social media platforms in order to increase engagement levels and views.
